Industries where operations decide the margin

The problems repeat across industries: work that waits, money that leaks, projects without an owner. What changes is the vocabulary and the pressure behind it. These are the places where we find the most to fix.

Manufacturing and industrial

In plants, the cost hides in scrap and rework, overtime that became permanent, maintenance done only when something breaks, and purchasing decisions made on gut feel because nobody trusts the ERP data. We start where the money is, usually purchasing, scheduling and the handoffs between shifts.

Distribution and logistics

Margins in distribution live in the details: carrier rates set years ago, warehouse layouts that fight the order mix, picking errors that turn into credits, and a peak season that always needs more people than planned. Contracts and order flow are where we look first.

Public companies

Listed companies carry promises to investors: cost targets, integration timelines and reporting dates that do not move. When a COO leaves mid-year or an integration falls behind, an interim operator who can take the seat quickly costs less than a missed quarter.

Private equity portfolio companies

Sponsors want a 100-day plan, clean monthly reporting and visible operating improvement, often from a management team that is already at capacity. We work with the CEO and the operating partner, write the plan, run it, and leave the reporting in a shape the board can use.

Healthcare services

Clinics, practices and service providers lose time on scheduling, referrals, billing handoffs and the administrative work that pulls clinical staff away from patients. Your compliance team sets the rules for patient data; we work inside them.

Associations and member organizations

Member organizations run on events, content and service to members, usually with a small staff. This is where On It Service has its longest track record: at CLOC we supported operations while membership grew from 300 to 2,400.
